How far in advance do I need to book?
Standard service is available with 3 or more days advance notice. Bookings under 3 days are handled as express and carry a 5% surcharge. For same-day requests, contact us directly so we can confirm Dan's availability.
What is your per-mile rate and what does it include?
The base rate is $0.75 per mile with a $500 trip minimum. Every quote includes an 8% insurance surcharge and line-item costs for driver pay, fuel, tolls, lodging where applicable, and Dan's return travel home. Express service (under 3 days notice) adds a 5% surcharge on the base. The AI calculates actual driving distances, not as-the-crow-flies estimates. Transit days assume Dan drives 8 hours max per day (about 500 miles), which is why long routes include overnight lodging.
Does my vehicle need to be running?
Yes. Dan personally drives every vehicle, so it needs to be running and driveable. If your vehicle isn't running, please call Dan directly at (833) 700-8364 to discuss options.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Cancellations 7 or more days before your scheduled pickup receive a full refund of the deposit. Cancellations between 48 hours and 7 days before pickup receive a 50% refund. Cancellations under 48 hours before pickup are non-refundable. If SelectDrive cancels for any reason, you receive a full refund. (Note: if your quote included a flight for Dan to reach your pickup location, that airfare may or may not be refundable depending on how the ticket was booked. Any non-refundable airfare is deducted from your refund regardless of cancellation tier.)
Who drives my vehicle?
Dan Ketelsen drives every SelectDrive job personally. SelectDrive is owner-operated, Dan has a perfect driving record and 30+ years of professional driving experience with a Fortune 100 company. There are no subcontractors and no unknowns behind the wheel of your vehicle.
Can you transport pets or goods (not just vehicles)?
Yes. Dan transports pets (dogs, cats, etc.) and personal goods in addition to vehicles. For pet and goods jobs, Dan rents a vehicle at the pickup location, loads up, and drives to the destination. The rental car cost is included in the quote. Pets are treated like family, regular stops, climate-controlled vehicle, and direct communication throughout.
Why are there travel costs in my quote?
Dan is based in Des Moines, Iowa. For pickups within about 350 miles, Dan drives his own car to you, the cost is just mileage. For distant pickups, Dan flies from Des Moines International Airport (DSM) to the nearest major hub and then gets to your location by ground transport. The quote transparently shows his flight cost and ground transport. After delivery, Dan flies home the same way.
How does real-time GPS tracking work?
Once your booking enters In Transit status, GPS tracking is active from pickup to delivery. You receive daily check-in updates and milestone notifications throughout the route. Delivery is confirmed with post-trip photos you can compare directly against the pre-trip inspection record. Log in to your account to track your vehicle in real time.
