Relocation car transport: planning the vehicle leg

When a household moves, an operable car may be planned as a separate driveaway leg. This page describes a possible future referral model. A pet that travels well may accompany the vehicle it belongs to, and ordinary belongings that fit safely below the window line may be accommodated, but both require advance disclosure and written approval in the trip agreement. Approval is separate from the price estimate and is never automatic. These accommodations are incidental to delivering the vehicle. SelectDrive does not offer household goods moving, standalone goods delivery, or standalone pet transport. No person may ever travel in the vehicle.

Planning status as of July 26, 2026: SelectDrive is accepting route details for planning estimates only while its federal interstate operating authority is pending. No interstate for-hire move will start until the required operating authority is granted and active, and the specific trip has current insurance, vehicle, driver, and signed agreement approvals.

Relocation teams can share route details for a nonbinding planning estimate. The illustrative model bills driver pay at $450 per day in half-day increments, with a one-day minimum, then itemizes route and positioning costs. Electric charging is billed at documented actual cost with receipts. It is not a booking quote.

How the planned referral model would work

• One clear handoff. The relocation team would refer the vehicle, and SelectDrive would review it only after authority is active and every trip approval is satisfied.
• Pet and belongings approval. A pet or ordinary belongings require advance written trip approval and are incidental to delivering the vehicle, never standalone transport. See the current policy.
• One-way moves are the norm. Permanent relocations are exactly what driveaway is built for.
• Trip visibility. A future signed agreement would state whether a private tracking link and condition documentation are included.

How planning works now

• Share the possible route, dates, and vehicle for planning.
• Receive a nonbinding estimate with no service or date reservation.
• Wait for written confirmation that authority is active and all trip-specific approvals are complete before treating any move as accepted.

No repeatable referral arrangement or transportation commitment is active until the legal, insurance, operating, and signed-agreement requirements are complete.

The honest scope

The planned SelectDrive model is driveaway, not trailer transport: operable cars only, one car per trip, and route miles added to the odometer. For an inoperable car, a full fleet at once, or a unit that should not gain miles, a trailer carrier is the right tool. SelectDrive is based in the Des Moines metro, so Midwest origins and destinations are the natural planning focus.
